Understanding how dry toilets work

Dry toilets separate urine from feces, creating a natural composting process. Without water, there's no discharge into groundwater. Sawdust, a key element, neutralizes odors and accelerates decomposition. Our eco-lodge has used this system since its environmentally respectful renovation. Residues become compost enriching our chestnut trees. Contrary to misconceptions, these toilets are hygienic, odor-free and easy to maintain. Every user becomes an agent of their own waste management responsibility.

Ecological impact: the water we never use

Flushing accounts for a large share of a household's water use. Here there is none. This is not a comfort detail: the estate is not connected to the mains and lives on its own spring, which summer can stretch thin. That is why we ask guests to save water, and energy, wherever they can. Greywater is treated by phytoremediation, which means using only the biodegradable products provided.

Modern comfort and ecological philosophy are not mutually exclusive

Some fear that choosing an eco-lodge means sacrificing comfort. It's false. Our restored 1850s stone building offers warm rooms, an equipped kitchen, a welcoming terrace. Dry toilets blend seamlessly into this comfort. No unpleasant odors, no unpleasant maintenance for guests. We manage everything.
